Celebration Photo Show!

My blog recently had its 1st anniversary after its creation/first post. I'm going to be celebrating by hosting a show on OMHPS!

(If you look closely on the show banner, you'll see some ISHs in the background. Starting to think this blog might have too many featured. 😉)

This show has been in the works for... at least 4 months? Excited to finally have it ready for entries.

There are three divisions, OF Large, OF Small, and an exciting 'Fun' division! I hope to see some of your entries. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to contact me.

You can find the show [here].

Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to my wonderful judges. This show wouldn't be possible without their help. A round of applause to:

Naomithewolf and SpottedDreamsStudio

I met Naomi on the Crescent Cove Discord server, and she's also the person who hosts the shows for that lovely group. Here are her two DeviantArt accounts, one for horse photography/stock images, and one for art. You can reach her on Discord at Naomithewolf#2563

Adah, aka SpottedDreamsStudio, is pretty well known on this blog. She has her own- as many of you know. You can check that out [here].

Update: If you are new to OMHPS, check out this handy blog series that Adah made! [Link]

The blog will have updates on the show every once and a while, so be sure to check back! :)

Huh... Interesting...

The sneak peak, was indeed a Birds of a Feather release. Say hello to Magpie!

Breyer Collector Club Exclusive - Magpie - Birds of a Feather Series - Show Jumping Warmblood
Breyer Collector Club Exclusive - Magpie - Birds of a Feather Series - Show Jumping Warmblood
$195, enter by 11:59 PM EDT 3/16

Not the mold that I would have expected to be used, but he looks great nonetheless. Won't be entering, just because I'm not a huge fan of the sculpt. Good luck to those who enter! He's LE 500, so shouldn't be *impossible* to get hold of.

Well, that takes the Show Jumping Warmblood off of the possible Breyerfest surprise horse guesses! Do you have a guess what it will be? Let me know in the comments!

Finally, Some News!

Well, after a long dry period news-wise, we have at least a little bit of something. The blog hasn't had any news posts in two weeks!

The Easter plush has been revealed!

Cute, but nothing that I need (as usual, with these plushies). Hoping she will stay available for everyone who wants to purchase her.

Annnd... a Vintage Club release! A Classic scale Secretariat! 50 pieces made of the gold variation.

These two are awesome. I love how the gold one matches the traditional release(s).

That's it for now. Hoping I can get a post out about the photo show soon. Stay tooned!

Model Highlight

Perseus, aka Prisma!

This series is all about models from my showstring. Picking one out every once and a while, and giving a little info about them.

Today's post is all about the crystal model from Breyerfest 2021. I chose his name because of the Cap of Invisibility that the Greek demi-god, Perseus, wore to slay Medusa. I found it fitting.

This guy never fails to do well in shows. Normally placing in the top 5 every class. Proud of him!

Please bear with me now that my posts are becoming more and more spaced out. Been super busy with hobby related tasks, including planning the photo show that will be out this month (🤞). With not much time left to write.
As always, if you have any questions or post suggestions, don't hesitate to use the contact form to get in touch with me! :)

Photography for Photo Showing : Tips and Tricks!

Today's topic will be all about backgrounds.

Disclaimer: These are just my opinions, and what I've found to work. If you have different methods that you like, awesome!

BGs are a huge component to a nice photo show entry. It shouldn't be distracting, but it should complement the model's color.

Types of backgrounds:
There are two main categories, realistic and studio (best word I could come up with, lol). This post will be about the studio type, as that is what I use, and what is going to be the easiest to start out with.

For studio backgrounds, I try to use a single color. That way it isn't distracting. Dark grey has been my favorite to use so far. I would stay away from bright/strong colors, like a royal blue, because it gives the model's color a weird hue. Try not to use a white background, as the model's white markings will be very difficult to see. Even light grey has that problem.

I prefer to use matboard, but towels and blankets work just as well.

Example of a matboard BG:

Example of a towel BG:
(Yes, I know that this is a brighter colored blue background. This model's show photo needs updating! Just wanted to show what a blanket/towel would look like.)

(I will try to update this post with real photos of my setup later, once the weather cooperates.)

The next post will be about how to position your model, so you can show off their conformation well!

Want! 👀

Breyer revealed 2/3 of the Breyerfest volunteer models, say hello to Chevaliere!

I really want both of them, too bad that they're going to be super pricey on the second hand market. :/
The bay looks awfully like Victoria- similar bay coloring and face marking. Still gorgeous though. 💜

We also got the February Collector Club newsletter today!
For this month's giveaway, two lucky entrants will win a set of glossy GG Valentine and Heartbreaker!

Here's where you can enter: [Link]

A sneak peak was included, looks to be a mapped appaloosa decorator! I love that color, well, at least judging from the little square of shimmery blue!

Some speculations have been that it's going to be a magpie inspired model. Very possible! It would also make sense why they added "Do you like shiny things? We do too." to the photo description.
I have no clue what the mold could be though.
