It took me almost four days of nonstop work to make this guy, but it was worth it!
He was originally a unicorn, but the horn was clipped off and sanded down. The seams and logo were also sanded.
I decided to make him into a black overo. I used Baldy as pattern inspiration. Here's an ugly stage. He looked like a brain a few layers before this, unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it.
This is where the color started to come together.
A few layers later, he's looking good!
The basecoat ended up being a little too watery, so it went underneath the masking tape. I made him a sunbleached mane and tail, and it turned out really well.
I etched the paint away, and cleaned his markings up. During the etching process, he suffered some damage.
I was able to repair him, add pinking to his nose, and paint his eyes and hooves. I feel like I could have done the hooves better (especially the dark one), but I think they're decent.
He is now finished! All he needs now is sealer. I really enjoyed painting again. I've had a long break since my last custom, but I have drastically improved.
He's beautiful. Great job!
